November Schedule

Sunday November 4, 10:15 am.   Fellowship PresentationMarine Photography,  Presentation by Ralph Breitenstein who will discuss his work in OSU’s marine bioinvasions lab emphasizing the role of macrophotography in identifying the invertebrates in the Yaquina bay. Equipment, setup and techniques will be discussed. There is an old saying “Those that can’t draw take pictures.” Come and listen to a semi fascinating story of one who can’t draw!

Sunday, November 4, noon.   Monthly meeting of the 2012-2013 CCUUF board.

November 11, 10:15 Fellowship Presentation.  The life and times of Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas provide an interesting understanding of the American law and justice at mid-twentieth entury.  Presentation will include a discussion of his life and the contribution of this longest serving justice to some of the most controversial areas of public law in the nation’s history.   Presentation by John Aylmer, retired professor of Political Science at Wenatchee Valley College.

Sunday, November 11, 10:15 am  Second Sunday Book Exchange. Have a book you no longer need but think others might want? Bring it to give to others in the fellowship.We have a “book exchange” at the fellowship on the Second Sunday of each month. Any books that you have that you wish to give away to others in the fellowship to read, bring the second Sunday. Maximum of five books per person.

Sunday November 18, 11:00 am.  Monthly Fellowship Lunch  and Thanksgiving Dinner in lieu of a presentation.  [Note, start time is different this week.]

Sunday, November 25.  We do not meet.

December Schedule

Sunday December  2, 10:15 am.  Fellowship Presentation.  Childless by Marriage.  Author Sue Fagalde Lick speaking about her book,  Childless by Marriage. The main focus is marriages in which one partner can’t or doesn’t want to have children, but not having children in this world where most people do makes life different in so many ways.  Topics to be discussed include: making the decision to enter a marriage that will not include children, dealing with step-children, feeling left out of the “mom club”, and facing old age without children.

Sunday, December 2, noon.   Meeting of the 2012-2013 board of CCUUF.

Sunday, December 9, 10:15 am Fellowship Presentation.  The X-rated Bible. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, once said that there are parts of the Bible that are not appropriate to read in church.  And you won’t often, if ever, hear a sermon on those passages. We’ll take at look at some of those interesting and bizarre passages.   Presentation by Brent Burford.

Additional Activities and Notes

Saturday, November 10 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  UU Voices for Justice Oregon Annual Statewide Meeting at the UU Congregation of Salem.  Goals of the meeting will be setting priority issues for the public policy advocacy in the coming year.  All participants are asked to register (the event is free) by going to the Oregon UU Voices for Justice website:  www.uuvoicesoregon.org   Participants should bring a lunch, drinks and snacks provided.  For further information contact Oregon UU Voices Coordinator Judy Zimmerman at oregonuuvoices@yahoo.com  or 503.324.9377.

Wednesdays. 6:00 pm.  Benefaction Zen (Meditation) Community.   Zen meditation is held weekly at 6:00 pm at the Yurt on SE John Nye Rd.  Silent sitting and walking meditation with chants, reading/talk about practice, and optional bowing practice.  Free, but donations will be accepted to cover expenses.  For further information contact Jean Fredrickson, tel. 541-224-3713, email: jeanconnect@aol.com
